Staples Selects Penske Truck Leasing for Fleet Maintenance of Electric Trucks
READING, PA, Jul 29, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) — Penske Truck Leasing today announced it is providing commercial truck fleet maintenance services to 53 all-electric, class six trucks for Staples, the world’s largest office products company.
The vehicles are being serviced in the following U.S. markets: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles, Kansas City and Portland, Oregon.
“These electric trucks are part of our global sustainability program,” stated Mike Payette, Director of Fleet Equipment for Staples. “We found Penske to be a progressive partner, and they were willing to learn about this technology with us.”
Staples has introduced these all-electric trucks into their fleet with a goal of improving fleet fuel economy. The all-electric trucks can reach 55 mph and are most effective in large cities that require constant stop-and-go driving. A single overnight charge is sufficient to power an all-electric truck through a typical day of deliveries.
“We’re very pleased to serve as the exclusive contract maintenance provider for Staples all-electric delivery trucks,” stated Bob Douglas, Penske Truck Leasing Vice President of Field Maintenance – Northeast Region. “We will continue to support Staples and their efforts for sustainability. Penske is an interested partner in this reliable alternative for the transportation industry.”
Penske Truck Leasing provides Staples with contract maintenance services nationally on its standard diesel trucks. Its subsidiary Penske Logistics also provides dedicated contract carriage services in the Atlanta area.

Penske Gives Tips on Moving your College Student Home
When Your Student Comes Home
(NAPSI)—As many parents have learned, college students don’t just acquire knowledge at school—they also accumulate a lot of stuff. Fortunately, getting it all home at the end of the semester doesn’t have to be difficult if you heed a few hints from the folks at Penske Truck Rental:
• Pick the proper-size truck for your stuff. Most college students choose a 12- or 16-foot truck for moving out of a college residence or off-campus apartment.
• Reserve early. Reserve the truck and any moving accessories at least two weeks in advance.
• Pack smart. Load the heaviest items first. To avoid injury, always bend your knees and lift with your legs, not your back.
• Use accessories. Boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, moving blankets and hand trucks are essential moving tools.
• Safety and security. Trucks are taller, wider and heavier than standard consumer vehicles. Drive more slowly and take extra precautions. Park in well-lit areas and padlock the rear door. Penske offers 24/7 emergency roadside assistance and optional protection plans.
• Create a travel bag. Don’t pack everything on the truck. Keep important paperwork, credit cards, identification, change of clothes, drinks and snacks close at hand.
• At home. Once the truck is unpacked, college counselors advise, students and their parents should do four things:
1. Set realistic expectations about house rules and responsibilities.
2. Make mutually agreed-upon adjustments. Curfew may no longer be appropriate, but parents may expect to be notified of late nights out.
3. Keep your sense of humor; ordering a pizza at 2:00 a.m. is “normal” at college but might seem strange at home.
4. Remember, the situation is temporary.

Tips On Making A Do-It-Yourself Move
(NAPSI)—For a growing number of families, relocating has become a “moving experience.” That’s because whether they’re going across town or across the country, they’re choosing to move themselves. For some, it’s a way to have more control over the process. For others, it can add up to significant savings.
To help you take part in this trend, here are some tips from the professionals at an industry-leading company—Penske.
• Rent from experts. Renting trucks from knowledgeable professionals can help ensure that your move is smooth and easy. “Moving is one of life’s most stressful moments,” said Don Mikes, vice president of truck rental for Penske. “Our goal is to help guide people through their journey.”
• Select smart. A 12- or 16-foot truck can be a very versatile size—excellent for moving everything from a few large items or the contents of a small condo or apartment.
• Reserve early. Book your rental truck at least two weeks in advance.
• Pack wisely. Load your heaviest items first. Avoid injury by always bending your knees and lifting with your legs.
• The right accessories can make a difference. Boxes, bubble wrap, moving blankets and hand trucks are essential to protect your items and make your move more enjoyable.
• Mark it up. Label as you pack. It makes it easier to put the boxes in the right room when unloading.
• Think safety first. Rental trucks are taller, wider, heavier and require more stopping distance than cars.
Pick up your truck early. Practice driving. Take precautions when the truck is loaded. Beware of low-hanging branches and overhangs when cornering. Park in well-lit areas-and padlock the rear door.
Penske Truck Rental has 24/7 emergency roadside assistance and optional protection plans.
• Get oriented. Ask the truck rental associate to walk you through the vehicle’s features. It should be a clean and well-maintained vehicle.
• Drive green. Use a truck rental company affiliated with EPA’s SmartWay program. A little preparation goes a long way to ensure an easier—and safe—move.
